There’s been a lot of talk around Xbox lately, especially since Asha Sharma took over for Phil Spencer as the head of Xbox gaming. Today Asha confirmed her commitment to further Xbox hardware by unveiling their latest project.
In a post today on X, Sharma unveiled the codename for the next console “Project Helix” once again confirming her commitment to Xbox as a hardware company.
“Great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console.
Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games. Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week!”

By unveiling the codename of the next-gen Xbox console, Sharma should at least have quelled anyone thinking that they may be exiting the hardware space.
While there is no other information being given at this time we can at least read between the lines to see that Xbox is indeed going down the path of an Xbox-PC hybrid that will seemingly support Steam and maybe Epic. This could be a reason why Sony is reportedly scaling back their PC releases.
Additionally it sounds like the next console will be focusing again on power. Whether they go with a similar launch of the Series consoles with a cheaper, less powerful version and a more expensive, powerful machine remains to be seen.
With Sharma and the Xbox team headed to GDC to talk to studios about Project Helix perhaps we will hear new details sooner than we thought.
