Following a deep dive into Forza Horizon 6 during January’s Xbox excellent Developer Direct showcase, we now have a further glimpse at the jaw dropping world Playground Games have created.
Releasing in just over 2 months from now, Horizon 6 is the first game in the series in Asia. Located in The Land of the Rising Sun, the destination most sought after by fans following the stunning locations of Mexico in 5, Britain in 4 and Australia in 3.
Forza Horizon 6 Gameplay
The footage, which you can see below, comes courtesy of this month’s IGN First, of which Horizon 6 is the feature title.
The daytime driving footage which features the legendary American supercar, the Saleen S7, gives us an impressive look at how open world driving will be handled in the game. We also get to see the player drive through the Tokyo metropolis and approach the iconic Tokyo Tower, with Tokyo the biggest city to be created for the series.
There are a few extra tidbits of information that can be ascertained from the trailer.
First, there will be 662 roads to tear through as we can see in a pop-up tracker. There is regularly an achievement in Horizon for driving down each road in the game. Later on, we also see that there will be 74 areas to discover, which can be spotted as the player drives through Osaka Tunnels at 4:55.
Whilst we don’t get to see the new Discoveries menu in action – which was recently revealed in the game’s career / progression reveal – the player makes progress towards a Discovery objective during their drive.
What many have already noticed in the footage is the lack of other drivers on the road. Previous iterations of the franchise have featured a fair and non-intrusive volume of AI drivers on the road. Whether this is a slightly dated build with less cars on the road is unclear, but players will undoubtedly like to see more active roads in the full release.
As one of the biggest games of the year, Horizon 6 is really shaping up to be the dream ride around Japan players have been asking for. We can expect to see plenty more of Horizon 6 via IGN this month.
Forza Horizon 6 arrives on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass and PC on May 19. Premium Edition / Premium Upgrade players will get 4-day early access on May 15. It arrives on PlayStation 5 later this year at a TBA date, following the incredible success of Horizon 5 on PS5.
