One of 2025’s greatest shooters, Doom: The Dark Ages – which we heaped praise on in our review – released as a fully realised single-player package.Though, with no multiplayer there was little more for players to do after completion.
The game that quickly saw 3 million players and become the biggest launch in developer id’s history was always expected to see DLC though it’s been incredibly quiet on what that may become. As we approach a year from release of the base game, we now finally have some information.
Speaking in Doom’s official Slayers Club Live podcast (see 41:08), the Game’s Director, Hugo Martin has shed some light on what’s to come. And it looks like it’ll be a meaty package of content with some new gameplay. Martin said “I’m not going to lie. The DLC is nothing like this… I can’t say too much. I’m just going to say that like what I have been playing… I haven’t been playing like this”.

Whilst playing the base game on the stream, Martin added “Now you could play the DLC like this but I was not”. He went on to add that although “it’s been a while since we shopped the game”, this “freaking huge” DLC will be a big deal, saying “It’s massive. It’s so big”. Whilst that’ll likely mean new areas, weapons and demons to slay, we’ll have to wait a little longer to hear anything more official on the expansion. There is currently no release date or window for the DLC.
Doom is one of the most seminal shooters of all time, still influencing the first-person shooters we play today. Reinventing itself with the incredible Doom ‘2016’ and its direct successor, Eternal, before a shift in art style and gameplay style for The Dark Ages. Doom has continually pushed the genre forward and based on Martin’s comments this new DLC will continue to do so.
