Following the absolutely outstanding Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and its solid DLC, The Order of Giants, it was unsure whether MachineGames would jump back into the world of Indy or turn back towards the series they’re most well known for, Wolfenstein.
Late last year, in a documentary titled ‘The Making of Wolfenstein’, MachineGames said that they’d always seen Wolfenstein as a trilogy. In the documentary, Studio Head, Jerk Gustafsson said: “We have always seen this as a trilogy. So that journey for BJ, even during those first weeks at id, when we mapped out New Order, we still had the plan for at least that character. Wwhat would happen in the second one and what would happen in the third one.”.
Well, it seems that MachineGames are indeed working on that trilogy finale. The project, codenamed ‘Valkyrie’, appears to be Wolfenstein 3 as per a casting call, with capture beginning later this year.
MP1st discovered the casting call, which is seeking an actress to play a Ukrainian orphan, aged between 8 and 11, named Sofiya. Sofiya and her adopted dog Ralph, will form a bond with William BJ Blazkowicz and accompany him through the game.
It isn’t exactly clear on the dynamics of Sofiya and BJ yet, though it may be best to assume he’ll be on a story of vengeance against the Nazis who ripped through her motherland during the Second World War. Whilst Wolfenstein has traditionally been more light-hearted, a deep relationship between orphan and trigger-happy Blazkowicz does sound a more mature, interesting approach to Wolfenstein 3.
If you’re yet to play the modern Wolfenstein games, I highly recommend The New Order, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus and my personal favourite, The Old Blood to you. Rip roaring shooter campaigns that will appease that need to violently obliterate the animals of the Third Reich. Many of the games are available via Game Pass or PlayStation Plus.
The threequel cannot come quickly enough.
