Silent Hill Transmission Details Townfall’s Setting and Screen Burn’s Inspirations

Konami has finally revealed details of its Scottish-set first-person psychological horror game, Silent Hill Townfall, as part of its newest Silent Hill Transmission, announced earlier this month.

The Inspiration Behind St. Amelia

Developed by Glasgow-based Screen Burn Interactive, Silent Hill Townfall’s setting of St. Amelia is based on locations familiar to the game’s team. The Transmission revealed details of the game’s characters and scope, while also including a video diary featuring the team visiting the real-life locations that inspired the game’s cursed town.

This highlights the team’s visit to St. Monans, a harbor town that highlights the Haar, a sea fog that frequently appears in Scotland, which serves as the primary visual reference for the game’s depiction of the classic Silent Hill fog. The game’s writer and director, Screen Burn’s Jon McKellan, claims that this influenced the game’s theme of isolation, as it’s not only the game’s protagonist, Simon, experiencing this, but the town itself.

Meet Simon Ordell

McKellan states that Silent Hill Townfall’s protagonist, Simon Ordell, is primarily influenced by the series’ theme of guilt, as he wanted to “dive deeper into the various ways that guilt can manifest where it comes from, what it can do to people, and how, if you can, come to accept or resolve it.”

Simon is returning to St. Angela to “put things to rest” after an extended leave, and while he will mainly be travelling through the cursed harbor town alone, equipped with his CRTV, he will encounter other characters along his journey. The game will be primarily experienced through Simon’s eyes in first-person; however, unlike Silent Hill: The Short Message and P.T., Silent Hill Townfall will feature combat scenarios and traditional puzzle solving in line with other large-scale entries.

Scope and Scale

According to Annapurna Interactive’s Hector Sanchez, Silent Hill Townfall is not a small title like the company’s other published titles. Konami and Annapurna has given Screen Burn the time to develop the game into a fully featured Silent Hill title.

As of right now, there does not seem to be an Xbox version of the game confirmed. Silent Hill Townfall is available to wishlist on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The physical version is available for pre-order now at certain retailers from $49.99 USD.

Silent Hill Townfall will release for PC and PlayStation 5 in 2026.
