I’ll be the first to admit I didn’t expect another Resident Evil: Requiem trailer at this point in the year. The game releases in less then two weeks, and they have already given us a ton of information about pretty much every aspect of the game from the combat and the characters, to the new villain that will be making our lives difficult. Is there a such thing as too much information? I’ll let you be the judge of that. For now though let’s dig into some of the new shots we got.
Though this one doesn’t give us too much information besides a few new stills of some combat and areas we haven’t seen before, it does seem to add further mystery to the connection that Grace has to our new villain Victor. In this trailer Leon seems to press Grace more than anything, suggesting that their true dynamic in game might be a little more complicated then just friends or allies by proxy.
From the gameplay side of it, we get a few new clips of how Grace’s combat is going to look. With the claustrophobic closeups and the tight corridors, it certainly does give the impression that they are staying as true to the RE7 formula as possible with her playstyle. Then on the other side of the coin, we have Leon and his acrobatic moves that seem to flow perfectly with his John Wick style of handling the zombies in front of him. This set of cutscenes ends with Leon taking off his glove, revealing a black parasite that has infected his hand.

The trailer ends with Leon speeding towards the ruins of Raccoon City. All while a monologue between Grace and Victor plays in the background. Grace is questioning why he’s so interested in her to which he replies, “It’s cause my master made you who you are.” The scene then switches to a little girl sitting on the bed with hair eerily similar to Grace’s with clouded ghostly eyes. And what is that faint reflection of someone in the glass watching her?

You know Capcom, I was hesitant to get more information on the game. It feels like we already know so much. Yet still I am very intrigued with what kind of tone this story is going to take. Will this be Leon’s last adventure? Will he finally be handing off the torch to someone new? Who are the people in the reflection? What is the virus affecting Leon? All these questions and more will no doubt be answered in the weeks to come. Until then we can only watch our calendars as the release date inches towards us.
Oh and that building at the end of the trailer looks a little familiar doesn’t it?
Wonder what that place looked like in it’s prime? Do yourself a favor and play the Resident Evil 2 remake to find out. I can promise you it’s a wild ride from beginning to end.
