Our First Look At CONTROL Resonant Gameplay

Remedy Entertainment showed up to the PlayStation State of Play today, giving us our first good look at the gameplay for their next title, CONTROL Resonant, which was first revealed at the 2025 Game Awards, and is set to release this year across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Check out the CONTROL Resonant Gameplay Reveal Trailer below.

The trailer shows off one of CONTROL Resonant’s environments, the West Incursion Zone, epitomised by the streets and buildings folding in on themselves, one of several places players will traverse as Dylan Faden. He is on the hunt for his sister Jesse, the director of the FBC (Federal Bureau of Control) and protagonist of the first game, who is somewhere in this twisted version of Manhattan. Large, expansive areas offer a variety of activities alongside Resonant’s brutal melee-focused combat, including side missions, hidden secrets, and bonus encounters.

We also got to hear the voice of Zoe De Vera, an FBC Field Agent who acts as Dylan’s handler, offering guidance and context as events spiral out of control. According to a post on the PlayStation Blog written by Senior Game Designer Sergey Mohov, “Her [Zoe’s] relationship with Dylan is an important part of the story, pushing him to confront who he is, what he’s capable of, and what it means to hold onto his humanity in the middle of a supernatural crisis.”

Alongside his shape-shifting weapon, the Aberrant, Dylan also wields supernatural abilities like Reach and Shift, similar to those of his sister, which let him navigate areas called Gravity Anomalies that no longer obey the laws of physics, altering gravity and orientation.

“A road might be flipped upside-down above Dylan, or the roof of a building might be tilted sideways, acting as a vertical bridge. If you can reach these surfaces, you can walk on them normally. The challenge lies in re-learning what “ground” is and spotting pathways on surfaces that are now at war with gravity.”

But the star of Remedy’s latest trailer is the Aberrant, a weapon that has multiple forms, like Hammer, Blades, Scythe, and Fists, and offers players an expandable toolkit, unlocking new forms for the Aberrant as they progress, as well as new abilities and talents to tailor their playstyle. While Resonant is Remedy’s first game with melee-focused combat at its core, this trailer went a long way to assuage some of our worries.

To close out the trailer, we got to see one of the game’s eponymous Resonants, powerful boss enemies that used to be people “who once held great power, now corrupted and twisted by the same mysterious force threatening reality itself.” These Resonants are dangerous, offering a greater challenge that, when defeated, reward Dylan with a brand-new combat ability.

CONTROL Resonant is one of our most anticipated games of this year, so you can be sure to find any and all news related to it right here at the GSC!

CONTROL Resonant is slated to release in 2026 across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
