Last year, as the closer for its pre-Nintendo Switch 2 reveal Direct, Nintendo announced Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. While the game reappeared at September 2025’s Direct, there is still a lot of mystery surrounding the anticipated follow-up to the cult classic 3DS game. Well, it seems like Nintendo is ready to reveal all of its secrets now, as a Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Nintendo Direct has been announced for January 29.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a sequel to 2014’s Tomodachi Life for Nintendo 3DS. It is a social simulation game where players create Mii characters that live in an apartment together (or in the new game’s case, on an island together). The characters will engage in random events to grow their relationships, with the player being able to influence whether they will marry, have children, and more.
With the game scheduled to release in Spring 2026, Nintendo has now revealed via the Nintendo Today app that the game will receive its own dedicated Nintendo Direct later this week, specifically on January 29 at 6am PST/9am EST/2pm GMT. The Direct will be roughly 20 minutes long.
While our last look at Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream gave a glimpse at some of the expanded interaction mechanics, the new Mii Maker tool and character customization, and how the fully controllable island setting changes how the player can tailor the Mii’s relationships.
Given that this is the series’ debut on Switch hardware (coming 13 years after the 3DS game’s original Japanese launch), it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if Nintendo still has a lot more to showcase, given the small glimpses we’ve gotten at the game so far. It also seems likely that the game will receive its release date announcement here, but that remains to be seen.
