Yakuza 3 & Dark Ties Demo Releasing on Multiple Platforms

With less than a month to go until the release of Yakuza 3 & Dark Ties, RGG Studio are looking to give fans a taste of what’s to come in the full release of the game as a demo comes to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Switch 2 and PC. There is no mention of a PlayStation 4 demo in the social media announcement / image:

When is the Yakuza 3 & Dark Ties Demo Available

The Yakuza 3 & Dark Ties demo will launch on January 21 2026 (today) as follows:

Steam: 7am PT
Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and Switch 2: 9pm PT

In a statement on their website, RGG said: “This demo will give you a taste of both Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties. Explore the vibrant streets of Okinawa and Tokyo, enjoy a variety of minigames, duke it out in exhilarating combat, and experience engrossing substories.”

Yakuza Kiwami 3

Play through part of the main story and select substories.
Explore Downtown Ryukyu.
Engage in enhanced combat with Kiryu’s Dragon of Dojima: Kiwami and Ryukyu battle styles.
Enjoy karaoke and other minigames.
Personalize your flip phone with a selection of accessories.
Dress Kiryu in stylish apparel before heading out on the town.

Dark Ties

Play through part of the main story.
Explore parts of Kamurocho.
Punish enemies using Mine’s shootboxing-inspired battle style.
Enjoy mahjong and other minigames.

*Save data from the demo cannot be carried over to the full version of the game.

It’s a wise move to release a demo for the game. This is the third time that RGG Studio will have launched Yakuza 3, with the original launching on PlayStation 3 in 2009 (2010 in the West) and the remaster releasing in 2018 (2019 in the West). The new re-release will see the delisting of Yakuza 3 Remastered from all store fronts, a move that has been met with backlash from fans online.

Looking forward to the future of the series, Yakuza 3 & Dark Ties will feature ‘major hints’ towards the future of the franchise. Meanwhile, the long-time Yakuza Director, Toshihiro Nagoshi is working on a new series with heavy Yakuza influences, Gang of Dragon which was revealed at The Game Awards 2025.
