Project Shadowglass is One of the Most Beautiful Games You Will See This Year

There’s no denying that pixel art games are having a real resurgence over the last 5 years. With Terminator 2D: No Fate being one of 2025’s most gorgeous games, with it’s Mega Drive / Genesis era graphics. Among many others, the art style of generations ago is back in a big way.

At today’s New Game+ Showcase, possibly the most stunning unreleased pixel art game, Project Shadowglass reappeared with a new trailer. The 3D pixelated ‘stealth-focused immersive sim’ draws heavily from games like Thief and System Shock, but with an incredibly stunning fantasy setting. Lead Developer Dominick John takes us on a prototype sneak peak around some of the games locations which he says are not at all AI generated.

Little was revealed about the actual gameplay of Project Shadowglass today, but we do know it is a sandbox experience, encouraging players to tackle challenges and take downs in their own way. Though, in the trailer we do see usable items like a bow and arrows which suggests there’ll be enemies to hunt when it releases at an unannounced time. There will also be mantling and climbing abilities, locks to pick and sounds to use to your advantage, all synonymous with the first-person stealth game genre.

Also, in the new look at the prototype title, John showcases more about the games inventive 3D spatial audio design which features ‘ray traced audio reflections’. It’s recommended you check out the trailer with headphones to hear for yourself. There is no release window for Project Shadowglass at this time and I’d be surprised if we see it in the first half of the year, if in 2026 at all. With over 100,000 wishlists on Steam already, this one is already generating a wealthy following.
