First-Person Platformer Distant Shore: BRETAGNE Revealed At New Game Plus Showcase

As part of the New Game Plus Showcase, we got to see our first look at Distant Shore: BRETAGNE, a first-person sci-fi sandbox platformer, developed and self-published by Indie game studio, DISTANT SHORE. Check out the reveal trailer below

According to the game’s Steam page, Distant Shore: BRETAGNE has the player “Explore the ruins of a former research site, devastated by climate collapse. Wield magnetic gauntlets to move, bend, or break metal as you recover lost BIO2 data and uncover your brother’s trail — all while evading the Cloud, a sentient weather entity that watches your every move.”

Take on the role of Aaron as he explores the remains of a scientific site known as the “West Zone” in his search for what led to the facility’s collapse and his brother, Thomas. With excellent parkour skills coupled with the ability to manipulate metal and harness electricity, players will be able to reach any visible location, manipulating the environment as they explore it.

The “West Zone” looks to have a variety of locations, from the eerie beachhead you arrive on to the overgrown remains of BIO2 offices and laboratories, lost to time and in ruin, all of it littered with metallic structures to be moved, bent, and even broken as needed. But this place isn’t without its dangers, and a strange, sentient cloud watches your every move, and it doesn’t seem happy you’re there. If it starts to rain, you’d best get under cover, or the last thing you’ll be worried about is getting wet! We even saw a combat encounter with a security turret, so while the site may be falling apart, it is far from safe.

Conjuring up comparisons to games like Portal and Mirror’s Edge, BRETAGNE looks like a game to watch. The studio’s LinkedIn profile states that the DISTANT SHORE team is made up of no more than ten people, which makes this first official reveal all the more impressive. We hope it won’t be too long before we hear or see more of Distant Shore: BRETAGNE, so be sure to check back here at the GSC for future updates!
