After dominating much of the gaming discourse, as well as the 2025 Game Awards, fans of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 have been clamoring for a sequel, a story DLC, or ANYTHING to get their Expedition fix while they wait for word from Sandfall Interactive. While they did recently release the Thank You DLC, fans are waiting for even more. Well, we just got some word from the French developers about the inevitable next project. Luckily, it might just be (award-winning) music to our ears.

One might expect the pressure of trying to follow up a game as popular and as well-received as Expedition 33 would get to the fledgling company. This is not so, according to production director François Meurisse. In a recent interview, Meurisse acknowledged that “there is a bit of pressure“ as it pertains to any future release bearing the company’s name, but that “it’s not so important to us.“ The focus of the devs for their next project seems to be more about what they like. That’s right it will be less about what fans have been furiously typing about online since the record-breaking release.
Lead writer, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, a self-proclaimed “people pleaser“, who admits that meeting fan expectations is, “always in the back of my mind“. Svedberg-Yen also states very plainly that, “Creatively, we’ve always let our North Star be our own personal taste in terms of what we think is cool, what it is we enjoy and want to see.“ She further explained the stance on focusing on what the devs personally like. “I’ve seen too many TV shows and books be swayed trying to please a lot of people, and in the process you end up losing the heart of what’s there.“ She went on by saying that the studio needs to “trust our instincts“ moving forward.

It’s fairly obvious that their “is it cool?” approach to game-making certainly paid off for them with Expedition 33. So why would they attempt to fix a process that isn’t even close to broken? What do you think? Are you excited that Sandfall Interactive is trying to keep the focus on their vision and what they personally think is cool? Or do you hope they take more fan criticism and feedback into account for their next game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
