It seems as though publisher Square Enix is getting into the holiday spirit, announcing a new collaboration between Japanese clothing brand vaultroom and their much-loved JRPG Final Fantasy IX. This is just the latest in a growing list of collaborations and events that have been announced since March of this year, as Square Enix celebrates the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy IX.
Vaultroom is a “gaming community facility” that has collaborated with various IPs from video games, anime, and film, producing high-quality clothing merch. After the vaultroom social media accounts teased the announcement, we now have our first look at the merchandise, which goes on sale tomorrow, December 27th.

First up is a range of t-shirts, featuring the collab design you see above, original artwork of the FFIX cast, and a humorous take on Final Fantasy IX’s pair of mischievous jesters, Zorn and Thorn. The first two feature inkjet printing, while the Zorn and Thorn design is embroidered. All of them are priced at ¥9,900.

There are also a couple of hoodies featuring two embroidered designs, one of FFIX’s lead protagonist Zidane Tribal, and the other featuring the world’s most iconic black mage, Vivi Ornitier. Both hoodies are priced at ¥24,200.

While the new vaultroom x FFIX collab will go on sale tomorrow, shoppers will have to wait until March 5th, 2026, for shipping of their items to begin. For more details about garment sizes and shipping, please check the vaultroom blog for more information. All purchases will also include a sticker featuring the design selected.

Looking back over the last year, it is hard to think of another game that has ever received more attention and celebration than Final Fantasy IX has for its 25th anniversary. Only a few days ago, we also got news that the FFIX anime may be back in production, aiming for a 2028 release date. This comes after the mountain of merchandise that Square Enix has released, not to mention the live events that have been held, from the 25th anniversary exhibition to the FFIX pop-up cafe. Fans can even look forward to a new jazz reimagining of some of the game’s soundtrack!
While it is wonderful to see Final Fantasy IX receive so much love and attention throughout the year, it has done nothing to quell the fans’ fervour to hear news of the long-rumoured FFIX remake. Whether or not we ever will remains to be seen, but you can be sure that we’ll keep you up to date with all Final Fantasy IX news right here at the GSC!
