One of 2026’s most anticipated game has received some bad news ahead of Christmas. Developer IO Interactive has announced that their take on the famous James Bond character, 007 First Light, has been delayed. Luckily, for those who are eagerly anticipating becoming Bond won’t have to wait too much longer.
Originally slated to launch March 26th 2026, the new date given by IO Interactive is May 27th. This 2 month delay according to IO is to “ensure the experience meets the level of quality you players deserve on day one.” IO points out that they are an individual developer and publisher which adds to their responsibilities. You can read the full statement from IO Interactive below.

“Today, we are sharing an update regarding 007 First Light as we have decided to move the game’s release by two months, to the 27th of May 2026,” reads a social media post from IO Interactive.”007 First Light is our most ambitious project to date, and the team has been fully focused on delivering an unforgettable James Bond experience, bringing together breathtaking action, globe-trotting spycraft, gadgets, car chases, and more.
“As an independent developer and publisher, this decision allows us to ensure the experience meets the level of quality you players deserve on day one.”
Also in the post the developers say the game is already fully playable which is good to hear. 007 First Light represents IO’s first major release outside of the Hitman series they have become most famous for. It makes sense that they would want to ensure a game and franchise as big as 007 has as much polish as possible.
And based on what we’ve seen of the game so far, we have all the confidence in the world that IO Interactive will get First Light right. Their first gameplay deep dive that they showed off back in September showed an already impressive looking game.
007 First Light will launch on PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series S/X and Nintendo Switch 2 on May 27th, 2026. Pre-orders are already live.
