Following a solid critical launch for side scrolling action platformer, Terminator 2D: No Fate – which we reviewed positively here at Gamer Social Club – attention has already turned to the next planned Terminator title, Terminator Survivors.
Terminator Survivors had been planned to release in early access this year following a previous delay, though with two weeks left of the year, it was safe to assume that wouldn’t happen – particularly launching so close to last weeks No Fate. Now, the Creative Director of the game, Marco Ponte has confirmed that the game is delayed until further notice and there will be significant changes to the way the game will launch.
The biggest surprise change to the game is that co-operative play will be axed from the launch as the developers no longer feel a co-operative approach will suit the survival nature of the game. Ponte commented that after extensive testing: “to give you an authentic “Terminator” experience with the best possible shooting and exploration gameplay, we would have to put aside the cooperative multiplayer”. Acknowledging likely fan disappointment, they added:“We know this may come as a disappointment, but we believe it is the right creative direction for an uncompromising vision of the world after Judgment Day.”.
The other change in todays blog post is that the game will no longer release as an early access game, rather in full form when ready. Instead, Nacon Studio Milan will be using closed (under NDA) playtests to work with fans to get the game ready for players to jump into a realised Terminator world. You can register for the playtests here.
The game is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Though it will likely be some time before we see the full release of Terminator Survivors, stick with Gamer Social Club for more updates.
