Dead Island 3 is officially in development. Many first learned of this news from Bluesky user Timur222 who took the deep dive on these financial statements. Page 4 of the Dambuster Studios’ financial statements indicate the studio is now focused on this upcoming release. It’s still a little over 2 years away as Dambuster has stated an early 2028 release is planned.
While Dambuster Studios’ hasn’t made the official announcement just yet, this is more than enough to confirm the news. Does this mean we could start to see a teaser trailer in the coming months? All we know now is that “parts of the game are now in early production with feature, character, world, and story design moving at pace.” Fans of the series may have been expecting this news as Dambuster Studios previously indicated “the outbreak is far from over…” in a Steam post from September.

Will History Repeat Itself?
After having a troublesome development cycle that saw a switch between 3 different developers and lasted almost 10 years, Dead Island 2 launched back in 2023. This entry proved to be worth the wait as it received solid reviews overall and sold well, selling 3 million by 2024. I greatly enjoyed my time with the game myself, finding the combat to be a blast from start to finish.
It’ll be interesting to see which locale they go with this time. The first two games, Dead Island and Riptide both featured an island setting. Dead Island 2 saw us fighting through LA. Perhaps something like a winter themed setting could be the go around this time. Hopefully the 2028 release window can be met as it would be unfortunate to see Dead Island 3 face years of delays like 2 did. Even so, if the game is as good as Dead Island 2, then it may be worth the wait.
2025 was an excellent year for gaming and 2026 looks to be strong as well. If Dead Island 3 makes its 2028 window, then that’s at least one title I look forward to already. Let us know if you’ll be following for more information on Dead Island 3 in the comments down below.
