Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Due Out Before 2030

There is still quite a bit of buzz surrounding announcements from the 2025 Game Awards but one game may be standing out above them all. During the Game Awards main event we learned of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic being in development for PC and Consoles. In case you missed the teaser trailer, here it is below.

There is little known about FOTOR at this time but many fans are ready to revisit this timeline. The excitement heightened by the knowledge that Casey Hudson will return as Game Director. Casey seems to be just as excited to dive back in. In the press release shared on the FOTOR website, Casey was quotes as below:

With Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, we’re telling a completely new and different story with everything we’ve learned since – crafting an adventure about choice, destiny, and the timeless struggle between light and dark. It’s a dream come true to once again collaborate with Lucasfilm Games.

When can we dive in?

With so little information to go on, there has been speculation of when FOTOR might actually release. At this time, there is nothing but speculation and rumors based on the small bits of knowledge available. FOTOR is being developed by Arcanaut Studios which was founded in July of 2025. With this being such a new studio there is concern the game could be in development for many years before players have an opportunity to return to the Old Republic.

However, Casey Hudson was quick to take to social media to share that players will not have to wait a full five years.

While this doesn’t give any definitive timeline, it does narrow down the timeline a bit. Of course, that does mean it could be released December 31, 2029 but we hope not. Star Wars is an IP that doesn’t need to worry too much about hype dying down after the cultural impact it has had, but it could mean expectations rising to a level it may be hard to meet. Either way, this is a game we’ll be keeping a very close eye on.
