Good news, tabletop fans, one of the classics is coming to a screen near you. The much-loved tabletop classic King of Tokyo is getting turned into a video game!
If you play any tabletop games, you’re likely familiar with King of Tokyo, and it’s sequel, King of New York. The game is simple, trash Tokyo as one of a number of weird and wonderful monsters. You’ll fight off other players to become the King of Tokyo! And from the looks of things, that’s what Microids is bringing to the party with the video game version too!

You’ll roll dice to earn victory points, heal your monster, attack other players or purchase cards to boost yourself, giving you the edge in battle. The first player to reach 20 victory points is the King of Tokyo!
Feature Me This, Feature Me That
Some of the game features include:
- Solo and Local Multiplayer Modes – Face off against AI opponents in customizable matches tailored to all difficulty levels or challenge up to 5 friends in intense battles. Earn Victory Points or bring your opponents’ life points to zero to claim victory.
- Legendary Monsters – Play as one of six iconic monsters: Gigazaur, Cyber Kitty, Alienoid, King, Mecha Dragon, or Space Penguin, and dominate Tokyo!
- Power Cards – Gather energy during the game to purchase power cards, allowing you to shift strategies and expand your winning opportunities. With this intricate card system, no two games are ever the same.
- Dynamic Graphics and Sound Effects – Dive into a fully immersive experience with spectacular monster animations.

No official trailer has been released of gameplay, so we’ll be sure to let you know when something drops. I’m personally very excited. King of Tokyo was one of my first tabletop experiences, and I still have it on my shelves. Might just bust it out over Christmas and terrorise my wife with it!
King of Tokyo is aiming for a Spring 2026 release on PC, PS5, Switch and Xbox Series consoles.
