In the cozy gaming space, the “in” thing these days seems to be puzzle games that revolve around placing furniture or household items. Polish indie studio Armed Chicken is the latest to throw their hat in this ring with the recently announced Must be Feng Shui, and it’s looking like it might fit in quite nicely.
Must be Feng Shui is described by Armed Chicken, a 2-person dev team, as something in between the recently released, and quite popular, Is This Seat Taken? and Unpacking. Players will be doing their best to do furniture layout puzzles while also feeling like it’s a bit more of an open sandbox at times.
“With Must be Feng Shui, we wanted to make something for fans of cozy, thoughtful games – it’s a bit like if Is This Seat Taken? met Unpacking. You’re quietly rearranging tiny apartments, chasing that ‘ah, this finally feels right’ moment.” Piotr, aka Armed Chicken, told us when discussing the game.
And if you were wondering if you need to know anything about Feng Shui, don’t worry, it isn’t a prerequisite. Many people, myself included, have heard the phrase before but don’t fully understand it. With Must be Feng Shui, Armed Chicken says you will understand it after playing the game.
“You don’t need to know anything about Feng Shui to enjoy the game. By the time you’ve finished a few levels, you’ll naturally start to understand how flow, placement, and balance can change the feel of a room in real life.”
So why choose to make a Feng Shui game for your debut title?
“The idea for Must be Feng Shui came from watching Cliff Tan’s DearModern videos on YouTube, where he helps people fix the flow of their homes with Feng Shui. We loved the idea of doing that ourselves – checking if our own spaces ‘feel right’ – without having to call an expert. That curiosity slowly turned into a game where anyone can experiment with Feng Shui in a playful way.”
