Status of Future Metal Gear Remakes Up in the Air

This year saw the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the anticipated remake of the PlayStation 2 classic. The original Metal Gear Solid 3 is considered perhaps the best in the series and was an obvious first choice to get the remake treatment. It’s not just first in our hearts, but it’s chronologically the beginning of the story that Hideo Kojima started in 1987.

So what’s the next game to be remade in this legendary and much-loved series? Will there even BE a remake? Metal Gear series producer, Noriaki Okamura, shared some insight on those questions in a recent interview with Japanese website Real Sound.

When asked about future remakes in the series, Okamura stated that Konami was, “still at the decision stage” when it came to the next steps in the franchise. He mentioned that because MGS 5 came out so long ago that there were people largely unfamiliar with the series and that with the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater he would, “like to keep building on that momentum”, hinting that there could be another remake or perhaps, “something entirely new” on the horizon.

MGS Master Collection Vol. 2

Konami hasn’t revealed any future plans for the Metal Gear series save for the reassurance that MGS Master Collection Vol 2 is still in production. The first collection included the aforementioned Metal Gear and its sequel, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, as well as Metal Gear Solid and the HD Collection versions of both Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

There is no word yet what will be included in the Vol 2 collection. Still, fans are hoping that this long time between releases could mean that MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots could finally be seeing a console other than the PlayStation 3, but for now, fans will need to cross their fingers and hope for some “Kept you waiting, huh?” announcement from Konami.

If you’re in the mood for some shiny new Tactical Espionage Action, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is out on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. So have a seat, climb an endless ladder, and sing your favorite, infectious, earworm of a theme song while we await further news on the series.

In other news, Ubisoft has announced that there won’t be a planned second DLC pack for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.

I moved from the US to Prague back in 2010. Since then I've been the main English teacher and coordinator at a few schools, got myself a family, wrote a couple of children's books with my wife, experienced a good amount of homelessness (best diet ever), and through everything, I've leaned on my love and passion for gaming. I've gone from impressing my dad on the Atari to my students calling me a middle aged gamer and now I get to share my passion with my kids. Best artform ever.
