Assassin’s Creed titles have been well-known for having extensive post-launch support including an array of free and paid DLC. The modern ‘bigger’ AC titles – Valhalla, Odyssey and Origins – all had a slew of paid post-release content including Odyssey’s absolutely fantastic three-part DLC, The Fate of Atlantis.
With the excellent AC Shadows which we gave a 9/10 in our review, it was expected that Ubisoft would follow the game with a package of post-launch paid DLC, which started with The Claws of Awaji. Claws of Awaji arrived in September, DLC that that is roughly 10 hours long and was met with a lukewarm reception from series fans.
Shadows fans had been expecting a second piece of content, but now it is confirmed that isn’t in Ubisoft’s plans. In a new interview with YouTuber, JorRaptor series associate game director, Simon Lemay-Comtois has said “As of now, at this moment for Year Two, there is no expansion on the size of Awaji that is planned currently.”
Though keen to stress that the studio are not moving away from the game already, Lemay-Comtois said “we’re still working on content for post-launch and supporting it, but it’s not a full-on DLC”.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is currently available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC, with a Switch 2 version launching 2 December. The Switch 2 version will launch with support for cross-progression support, enabling existing owners to take their Feudal Japan adventure on the go.
Outside of Shadows, 2023’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage recently received free and unexpected new content with The Valley of Memories that launched last week. Having recently completed the new story content for protagonist, Basim, I can say that it’s definitely worth your time – especially as it’ll cost you nothing.
