Original Story
SEGA have announced that the Yakuza games receiving current-gen and PC ports in December will all have upgrade paths for digital purchasers. The upgraded re-releases which come as the series celebrates it’s 20th anniversary, will offer players upgrade paths if they own the original within the same family of hardware. SEGA are offering the upgrade “as a token of appreciation for their continued support of the series.”.
The upgrade paths apply for Xbox, PlayStation and Steam (PC). Thus, for example if you owned Yakuza 0 on Xbox One, you will be eligible for the upgrade path to Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut on Xbox Series X/S.
The upgrade paths do not apply if you ‘own’ the game via a subscription such as Game Pass or PlayStation Plus, you must be a registered purchaser of the game. Sadly, the upgrade paths are not available to PlayStation 4 / Xbox One physical owners of the games.

The upgrade paths vary in price, with one being free. They are only eligible for players who own the game on their chosen family of hardware by the time the titles arrive on 8 December. Details are as follows:

Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties
Also on the horizon from one of SEGA’s biggest franchises is Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, Dark Ties being a new slice of content never before seen in the original release. There is currently no details about an upgrade path for Kiwami 3, though that may be less likely with the feature of new content.
Both Dark Ties and Kiwami 3 will receive new combat styles when they launch on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2 and PC in 2026.
