Splitgate 2, the sequel to 2021’s portal jumping shooter, Splitgate will be relaunching in December following an incredibly rocky original launch earlier this year.
Splitgate and it’s sequel are FPS shooters that use portals, much like portals from Portal, to outmanoeuvre your foes and sneak up for stealthy and creative kills. The first-person shooter action features fluid movement and action that has been likened to that of Halo’s.
When Splitgate 2 released, it was met with a lot of criticism from fans of the original who said the game was riddled with microtransactions and predatory monetisation. Based on the feedback, the developers took the drastic step of taking the game back to beta stage, which is still available for a little while longer.
The developers will be closing the beta on 4 December and relaunching the game at a TBC date later in December. When the beta ends, “the Beta Season & active Battle Passes will be ending, alongside your seasonal “rank” progress”.
Whether the relaunch of the game will bring new success for a game with a lot to prove remains to be seen. Recent Steam reviews for the game (in beta form) are Mostly Positive, so perhaps developers 1047 Games do have a shot at redemption.
