Davy X Jones Gets Sky Hunts, The Kraken, And More In Major Update

Davy X Jones, the first-person pirate-themed action-adventure game from Poland-based studio PARASIGHT, has just received a major update, adding a treasure trove of new content as well as numerous updates based on player feedback.

According to the announcement post on the game’s Steam Page, “This isn’t just a content drop: it is a fundamental evolution of the game’s two core pillars: the Ground and the Sky.”

This isn’t hyperbole either, as headlining the Kraken Hunt update is the addition of sky hunts, where you will command Abby – half warship, half whale – in third-person roguelite runs across the Sea of Clouds. Of course, you’ll need a crew to man your vessel, so a crew system has been added as well, letting you recruit, upgrade, and lead your crew. Trade cannonballs with challenging enemies in explosive ship-based combat, gather valuable treasure, and face off against, you guessed it, the legendary Kraken!

It looks like these sky hints will be no joke, judging by the scale of the tentacled Behemoth you are expected to tangle with at the end of a run, but that’s not all the devs have been working on. Based on player feedback, the team has done a full rework of the combat system, updated the skill tree, added Steam achievements to the game, and more!

Here’s a rundown of everything else the Kraken Hunt update added to Davy X Jones:

  • New combat flow – A deeper system with a 5-hit combo, heavy attacks, and rapid strikes.
  • Rebalanced gunplay – Ammo limits, refined reload system, and tighter, more satisfying feedback.
  • Break & Stagger – Clearer, more skill-based combat with new and improved mechanics and animations.
  • Enemies Reworked – Updated enemy behavior for all foes.
  • Crew Skill Tree – Upgrade your entire Crew’s capabilities designed for Sky Hunts.
  • Codex – Lore, tips, and quick tutorials all in one place.
  • Steam Achievements – Now available!
  • FSR4, NVIDIA Frame Generation, UI & QoL – Smoother performance, cleaner UI, and plenty of under-the-hood upgrades.

There is one dead fish floating in the barrel of rum, sadly, and that is because any pre-existing save files will not be compatible with Davy X Jones once the game has been updated. “We know, we know,” say the developers, “losing progress stings. But here is the truth: It is totally worth it. We have packed the early game with new details, smoother progression, and hidden surprises in the “corners of the locker” that you would have missed on an old save.”

Released into Early Access on PC on August 28th, 2025, Davy X Jones is a single-player adventure that sees the player take on the role(s) of Captain Davy Jones, the legendary pirate. Having been defeated and decapitated by Captain Blackbeard and his traitorous crew, Davy (his skull) and Jones (his body) have reunited in the pirate underworld, The Locker, on a quest for revenge. Weild your vicious cutlass and gun in fast-paced combat as you traverse the nine islands drifting in the Sea of Clouds in the wildest, most imaginative take on pirates gaming has seen since the Monkey Island series!

Davy X Jones is available in Early Access on PC, with a 20% discount marking the release of the Kraken Hunt update.
