Sadly, it has been quite some time since we’ve had an official Star Fox game released. While there still isn’t one in the works, we may have information on the next best thing. The developers at Chuhai Labs have officially released a game play trailer for Wild Blue Skies. If it looks familiar, you may recognize it under its former name Wild Blue. Wild Blue appeared on Steam back in March and at the Future Games Show earlier this year.
If it triggers your nostalgia, then the development team is doing their jobs all too well. Chuhai Labs has previously shared, “Having Giles Goddard as our founder, we’ve wanted to make something that pays tribute to his amazing career making legendary games for a while now.” Based on the game play trailer below, so far, they are succeeding. Not sure who Goddard is and why this tribute is so special? All you need to know is he was part of that team that developed Star Fox. If this doesn’t get you excited for Wild Blue Skies, we’re not sure what will.
In Wild Blue Skies, play as Bowie Stray, leader of the Blue Bombers in this on the rails aerial adventure. Of course, even in Star Fox, while you played as Fox, there’s a cast of characters to round out the team. The same is true of Wild Blue Skies where the Blue Bombers are a team of other animal friends. Roe Whitetail, Thorne Prickle, and Chuck Barbacoa make up the Blue Bombers and are shown speaking to Bowie in gameplay footage.

The trailer shows the Blue Bombers making it through Hurricane which the team has shared is “a perilous level you’ll face in your adventures.” With towers falling, enemies swarming you, and a storm to block your vision, can you pilot the craft to victory? While the graphics make look quite a bit upgraded from Star Fox, the trailer implies that at it’s core, the heart is still there. This feels like the true definition of a spiritual successor. Animals, flying, and witty banter are just a few aspects of so much to love with Star Fox. Now a whole new generation has the opportunity to experience this with Wild Blue Skies. While we haven’t heard anyone say “do a barrel roll” just yet, perhaps we’ll have a little easter egg somewhere beyond just the game play showing off their moves.
Wild Blue Skies doesn’t have a release date just yet but you can already wishlist it on Steam. We’ll be sure to keep you up to date with any news as it becomes available. Will you be wishlisting Wild Blue Skies?
