Whilst not quite Beyond Good and Evil or now released Skull and Bones levels of delays, the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been in development at Ubisoft for many years. Following a series of lengthy delays and more, the game will finally be launching in 2026.
Following an unexpected delay to an investor call last week that raised alarm bells about Ubi’s financial situation, the French mega publisher today released their latest first half of 2025-26 earnings report. In the report, it’s revealed that the remake of one of the Persian Prince’s most loved adventures will release during Q4.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Trailer
To understand how much the game has been postponed, it once had a release date of 21 January 2021 on last-gen hardware. It’ll be over five years since that original date, what has happened in the time since then is relatively unknown. In the earnings report, Ubisoft haven’t confirmed what consoles the remake will release on, but it’d be safe to assume it’ll be a cross-generation launch.
The Sands of Time was an excellent time-altering platformer when it released during the PlayStation 2 era, and the series has ebbed and flowed ever since. Last years The Lost Crown (my personal 2024 GOTY) was a critical success though didn’t meet Ubisoft’s commercial expectations. The game is in both Game Pass and PlayStation Plus.
Earlier this year, The Rogue Prince of Persia launched on current-gen consoles and PC and is also available in Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus. It’s a game that is being worked on actively post-launch and the developers have actively engaged the community since it’s early access release.
So it sounds like the Sands of Time Remake really could be out next year, it’s been a long time coming and many fans of the original will be eager to get back to one of the Persian Prince’s finest adventures.
