A new metroidvania is on the horizon with Crowsworn! Showcased at the Xbox Partner Preview, it’s a dark fantasy metroidvania with a hand-drawn art style that has a visual vibe similar to Bloodborne.
Although I’m sure it will draw some comparisons to Silksong, it is worth noting that developer Mongoose Rodeo has been working on the game since 2021 and experienced a lengthy delay after a planned 2023 release date due to surpassing their Kickstarter goal by a considerable margin.

Even then, its combat looks like it’ll be very different from many Metroidvania titles, as it gave me vibes from The Dishwasher back from the early days of the Xbox 360. Makes sense, since Devil May Cry is said to be a heavy inspiration for the game, and The Dishwasher titles were essentially 2D character action games.
It can be difficult to stand out in the metroidvania genre as they’re often used as an early stepping stone for indie developers and there have been multiple legendary ones released within the past decade alone between titles like Ori and Silksong but, with it’s strong art style and combat resembling character action titles, perhaps Crowsworn will be able to stand on its own two feet.
There is no release date for Crowsworn yet, but it’s confirmed for Xbox and PC and will be launching day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
