Could we finally be seeing a changing of the guard in the first person shooter space? If Battlefield 6’s debut month is anything to go by, its quite possible. Today Mat Piscatella from the US tracking company Circana released their latest report for the month of October and the results for Battlefield 6 are eye popping.
According to the Circana report, Battlefield 6 is already the best selling game of 2025 after its first month on sale, surpassing the previous leader NBA 2K26. Not only is it the best selling game of the year, but according to the report, Battlefield 6 had the biggest launch month in terms of revenue since 2022’s Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
To put that into some perspective, Hogwarts Legacy launched in February 2023 and had sold 12 million copies and generated $850 million dollars in revenue in just its first 2 weeks. While the Battlefield figure is only in the US and its possible that Hogwarts Legacy did better worldwide, it still shows just how massive a launch Battlefield 6 had.

While Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launched earlier this month and can make an impact on the charts and surpass Battlefield 6, there is a very real chance that this is the first time a Battlefield game has outsold a Call of Duty game and only the second time since 2009 a non Call of Duty or Rockstar game topped the yearly sales charts.
Battlefield 6’s success is certainly showing the appetite gamers have for a more grounded military experience. Earlier this week I wrote a piece on how it’s time to bring back historically accurate, grounded shooters and while Battlefield 6 isn’t a historically accurate game, it is much more grounded than most of the shooters on the market.
Fans have been connecting with Battlefield in a way that the last few in the franchise haven’t quite been able to. Battlefield V and Battlefield 2042 were good games, but just couldn’t quite capture the Battlefield magic quite like 6 has. In our review of 6 we gave it an 8 saying “Battlefield 6 will no doubt resonate with fans of the originals as truly does feel like a return to form. The story might miss a few beats, but the multiplayer more than makes up for it once the bullets start flying.”
We will have to come back to the charts at the end of the year to see if it holds up, but for now 2025 has become the year of Battlefield in terms of success stories.
