Sharpen your Master Sword and polish that Hyrule Shield. Nintendo has announced, via their app Nintendo Today and Twitter, that The Legend of Zelda film is currently in production!
As previously announced over the summer, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Pinocchio) is set to star as Link, with Bo Bragason (Renegade Nell, The Radley’s) starring as the titular Zelda in the live-action adaptation of the popular video game franchise.
The creator of The Legend of Zelda series, as well as others like Mario and Donkey Kong, legendary Nintendo game designer, Shigeru Miyamoto, also took to X to post three first-look photos of the two lead actors in costume and in “a lush, natural setting” that wouldn’t look out of place in one of the classic Nintendo games.

The Legend of Zelda
The first entry in the series was released in 1986 on the Famicom Disk System. It then released a year later on the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). It has spanned 21 main Legend of Zelda titles, including fan favorites such as The Ocarina of Time (1998, Nintendo 64), Breath of the Wild (2017, Nintendo Switch) and many others often considered amongst the greatest video games ever created.
Very little is known about the plot of the adaptation at this time, so it’s not known if common series mainstays such as the powerful Triforce or the villainous Ganon will make an appearance, or even if Link will speak in more than grunts and yells.

Wes Ball (The Maze Runner trilogy) is directing the anticipated film, slated for release on May 7, 2027 with Miyamoto himself producing. For those who feel 2027 is too long to wait for Nintendo film fun need only wait until April 3, 2026 for the Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
If that’s still not enough for Zelda fans, you can always learn the Song of Time on your Ocarina.
