Winter Burrow – Friends In A Nutshell Achievement Guide

Winter Burrow might be the cutest and cosiest survival-crafting game we have ever seen, but it’s not without its challenges! The game has a few dozen achievements/trophies, and while most of them you are likely to unlock just through playing, there are a few we thought some people might want some help with. So here is our Friends In A Nutshell achievement guide to assist you in completing all of Gnawtusk’s quests in Winter Burrow.

Check out our Winter Burrow Review to read our full thoughts on the game.

Friends In A Nutshell Achievement Guide

You’ll meet Gnawtusk for the first time as part of Bufo’s questline. (check out our Family Reunion Achievement Guide for help with that)

Gnawtusk is a forgetful squirrel, but also an appreciative one, giving you the blueprint for the second shovel in exchange for your help. Their first quest is Find Stashes, and involves you using your shovel at two specific dig spots in Shadow Pines.

You need to craft the new granite shovel, so head back to your burrow to do that and then return to Gnawtusk’s camp.

Go North from Gnawtusk’s camp into a new area and take the left exit. In this area is a snail shell with a dig spot next to it. Here is the first of Gnawtusk’s stashes.

Go back to the first new area we you entered and take the exit on the right side to enter a new, larger area. There is a tree with a scarf draped over it, and at its base is the second dig spot with Gnawtusk’s second stash.

Go back to Gnawtusk, and they will remember a third stash they hid in a dark part of the Shadow Pines, so they give you a lantern you can equip to see in these dark spots. This is Gnawtusk’s next quest: Find Stash in a Dark Place.

Go through the exit to the left of Gnawtusk’s camp and then down a dark path to the South of the small area you enter.

Go to the right side of the larger area you reach at the end of the dark path, and use your lantern to explore the dark spot to find the Witchstone that Gnawtusk was talking about. Dig up the spot next to it to find the third stash.

Return to Gnawtusk and be rewarded with blueprints for warmer clothing. Finishing this quest for Gnawtusk leads straight into a main story beat of the game, but before that plays out, you will get their next quest, Find a Stash of Rare Herbs.

After the cutscene, you will be back at your burrow. Look in your Aunty’s backpack, which is on the floor, to find the stash of rare herbs we need. Return to Gnawtusk, and they will give you a unique item, Healing Tea for Aunty.

Go back to your burrow and give Aunty the tea, and she will give you a blueprint for a new backpack, expanding your inventory space.

Head back to Gnawtusk, and they will give you their next quest, Find Rare Herbs, which needs you to find 5 stashes of common herbs and 1 stash of rare herbs.

Again, head back and speak to Aunty, who is starting to feel better and able to help out at the burrow. She gives you the blueprints for two types of planters so she can grow herbs for you while you go out and about; what a coincidence, we can grow the herbs we need with these!

The round planters will grow the common herb stashes, while the large square ones will grow our rare herb stashes. You can also get lucky and find herb stashes in dig spots or backpacks you find out in the wild, but the planters are the surefire way to get what you need for Gnawtusk.

Once you have all of the one rare and five common herb stashes that Gnawtusk asked for, return to them one last time, and you will have finished Gnawtusk’s questline, unlocking the Friends In A Nutshell achievement!
