If you’re on the quest for achievements on Xbox games, you might have noticed a little hiccup over the past few days. It appears there is an outage occurring within the Microsoft systems. Specifically, it is blocking players from unlocking achievements, specifically within Xbox One games.
Now, let’s dig in a little more. What is being specifically impacted? From reports online, it seems to be affecting Xbox One games in the five year window of 2013 to 2018. According to TrueAchievements, the games that launched within this period utilized a specific system known as event-based achievements. This system would send in-game details directly to Xbox servers. This communication would unlock achievements once the requirements of the achievement had been met. After 2018, many games adjusted to a title-managed achievement system. This new system did not require the aforementioned steps of the event-based system.
The saving grace – if you’re more into the Xbox 360 era, you’re in the clear on that front. Also, if you’re working on your backlog of games post-2018, you’re also good. What is interesting though, is that there appears to be no acknowledgement of this on Xbox’s end, as the current Status Page notes no ongoing issues as of today.

Bigger Implications of This Outage?
Here’s the big question now. Will players see a retroactive update of their achievements once this matter is resolved on Microsoft’s end? Especially given that the current status reports are that all things are green on Xbox’s end. This outage comes on the tail end of a massive Amazon Web Services interruption that impacted systems across the globe, grinding many sectors of work to a halt.
We’ll see how long this outage continues to last. Be sure to stay connected with Gamer Social Club, for more on this, as well as all other gaming related news.
