It seems like there’s another round of layoffs occurring within the gaming industry. Let’s not forget the Microsoft layoffs that happened earlier this year, which sent ripples through many, many studios. On October 22nd, Ubisoft RedLynx released a statement, announcing coming layoffs to the studio.

In the release from the Finland-based studio, RedLynx reported that Ubisoft has announced a restructuring proposal, stating:
…the company’s global efforts to simplify, reduce costs, and ensure a stronger prioritization and efficiency across the company’s worldwide studio network. Before making a decision on the proposal, Ubisoft RedLynx will negotiate the matter with its staff in collective negotiations.
Managing Director of Ubisoft RedLynx Celine Pasula noted that the proposal is a reflection of many difficult decisions and recognizes the impact that such actions will have on the individuals at RedLynx. If the proposal does see full implementation, there would be a refocus of RedLynx from a multiplatform set-up, to a studio with specialization in small screens.
“We are confident that, with the proposed changes, RedLynx would continue to play a meaningful role in Ubisoft’s future—driving technical excellence on mobile devices, and strengthening Ubisoft’s cross and multi-platform capabilities on small screens to expand our audience reach.” – Celine Pasula
More on RedLynx
RedLynx, based out of Helsinki, was founded in 2000 and saw its early years as a mobile and browser-based game studio. Of note from these early projects was the Trials series. Following the success of Trials HD that made it to Xbox 360, RedLynx was acquired by Ubisoft in 2011. More recently, the studio has seen their work involve collaboration on other Ubisoft projects.
It must be noted, however, that this series of layoffs is still tentative at this time. Be sure to stay connected with Gamer Social Club as more news develops around these pending negotiations at this Ubisoft subsidiary.
