Somber news coming from Frogwares today regarding the pending release of The Sinking City 2. In an official statement, the company cited the game would be delayed to early 2026.
We’ve made the decision to move the release of The Sinking City 2 into the first half of 2026.
Developing through the war here in Ukraine continues to bring challenges, but this extra time lets us deliver the game at the quality it deserves.
Frogwares reported that many fans were expecting a possible release this year, which aligned with the studio’s own aims. However, Frogwares stated:
“However, ongoing challenges related to the war in Ukraine, including frequent power outages and the need to constantly adapt to unstable and dangerous conditions, have affected out development pace. Rather than rushing to mee a target that no longer makes sense, we’re taking the time needed to finish the game properly and will share a new date once we’re confident in it.”
More on The Sinking City 2 and Its Prequel
The Sinking City 2, initially announced in March 2024, was looking to be the studio’s first survival horror experience. This, in itself, was a large shift from the investigative adventures that the studio was known for. Consequently, there is the desire to ensure that what is brought to Lovecraft and horror fans is just perfect.
The Sinking City 2 is releasing as a direct sequel to the 2019 The Sinking City. The initial entry in this series focused on the town of Oakmont, Massachusetts during the 1920’s. Lovecraft fans, I’m sure, know that nearly every story has some focal point in Massachusetts. The story itself focused on Charles Reed, a private investigator and war veteran seeking clues to the cause of his recurring visions. The game received a “mixed to average” reviews on Metacritic and was also nominated for “Best Action and Adventure Game” at The Independent Game Developers’ Association Awards.
Frogwares provided appreciation for all the patience and support their fans have provided, in spite of the news of the delay. Be sure to keep it locked with Gamer Social Club for more details regarding the release of The Sinking City 2.
