The celebration of Final Fantasy IX’s 25th anniversary is still going strong, with Japanese games publisher Square Enix revealing a second round of merchandise for the upcoming FFIX 25th anniversary exhibition.
Announced via the official Final Fantasy IX 25th anniversary website that Square Enix launched earlier this year, the latest batch of FFIX merch adds acrylic character stands, book covers, stickers, playing cards, and several clothing items, including a replica of Garnet, the game’s leading lady’s hooded poncho! This is being added to the merchandise previously announced to be available at the exhibition later this year.
Here are some of our picks from the new additions (Note: All images are samples and do not represent the finished product.):
First up is a laptop case designed to resemble the book used by the Moogles you meet in the game to save your progress.

Next is an incredibly striking short-sleeved button-up shirt with the pattern of arguably the most well-known boss in Final Fantasy IX, Ozma.

There is a full set of playing cards featuring artwork of the main cast of heroes, villains, and summons. Fans can enjoy cards using the original character art by Yoshitaka Amano, as well as new illustrations by Toshiyuki Itahana.

A new range of acrylic stands with the main cast in their Trance forms.

Lastly, a wearable replica of Garnet’s iconic hooded poncho!

At this point, it seems as though Final Fantasy VII, FFXIV, and Nier Automata are the three other titles published by Square Enix to be lavished with such attention. While fans of the beloved JRPG will no doubt appreciate it, it won’t be any good for the fervent anticipation of the long-rumoured FFIX remake.
As always, we will continue to keep an eye out for any FFIX-related news, in the hopes of learning anything about Square Enix’s plans for the title.
What do you think of the latest additions to the Final Fantasy IX 25th anniversary exhibition merchandise? What are your thoughts on the attention that FFIX has been receiving over the last 8 or so months? Let us know in the comments below.
