Every year, there’s one or two indies that comes out of nowhere and blow us all away. For me, last year’s astonishing indie release was Sunset Visitor’s 1000xRESIST. This debut narrative-adventure game from a small collective of artists delivered what is, for my money, one of the best stories ever told in a video game. Now, it’s preparing to make its grand debut on PlayStation and Xbox Series consoles next month.

1000xRESIST is a cinematic narrative-adventure game set 1,000 years in the future. Aliens, known as “Occupants”, have made the Earth uninhabitable through the spread of a disease that wipes out most of humanity. The Earth’s survivors now live underground in a cult-like society, where they worship a woman known as the “ALLMOTHER”. The game follows Iris, who has been appointed the role of “Watcher”. Iris slowly unravels the mystery of the nature of her world, along with who the ALLMOTHER actually is.

PC and Nintendo Switch players have had access to the game since May 2024,. Now, Sunset Visitor and Fellow Traveller have announced that 1000xRESIST is coming to PlayStation and Xbox on November 4th. The game will also debut as part of Xbox Game Pass. However, it’s unclear which tiers the game will be part of.

1000XRESIST – Why should I check it out?

While I’ve surely already heaped praise on 1000xRESIST‘s narrative, don’t just take my word for it, the game won a Peabody Award for its writing and was nominated for Hugo and Nebula awards, among others. While there is not much to it in terms of gameplay, this is one that PS5 and Xbox fans of story-driven games should absolutely not miss.

1000xRESIST is available now on PC and Nintendo Switch. The game will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 4 2025.
