Following recent news that Xbox would be increasing Game Pass prices, Microsoft has stepped in to note that these increases will be delayed for current Ultimate Subscribers in select markets.
In the wake of the news that prices would be increasing by 50%, Microsoft is providing some additional context. Specifically that these price hikes would only be impacting certain regions. Additionally, that those in “select” regions will be able to continue paying what they are currently being charged. This will come as welcome news to these areas, as prices will increase from $19.99 to $29.99 for Game Pass Ultimate. Also, from $11.99 to $16.49 for PC Game Pass subscriptions.
Game Pass holders, predominantly in Europe, were reporting receiving emails from Microsoft. These communications indicated that the price changes would not affect them, dependent on them remaining subscribed to the service.
“At this time, these increases will only affect new purchases and will not affect your current subscription for the market in which you reside, as long as you are on an auto-recurring plan. Should you choose to cancel your plan and repurchase, you will be charged at the new current rate.”
Xbox Head of Communications Kari Perez confirmed in a statement to The Verge that:
“Our recent Game Pass update remains unchanged. Current subscribers in certain countries will continue renewing at their existing price for now, in line with local requirements. We’ll provide advance notice before price adjustments take effect in these countries.”
While there has been no confirmation, there are speculations around which countries will be retaining their current prices. Notably, subscribers from Austria, German, Ireland, Israel, India, Poland, and South Korea were among those who received the aforementioned Microsoft emails.
