Metaphor: ReFantazio is about to celebrate its one year anniversary and needless to say, people are quite excited for the event. In case you missed it, last year we wrote about the case for Metaphor: ReFantazio winning Game of the Year. While it didn’t win the big award, it did win some very notable awards. At the 2024 Game Awards Metaphor took home Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, and Best RPG. This was no small feat considering the competition this new IP faced last year.
Publisher ATLUS and developer Studio Zero are now ready to celebrate with an anniversary live stream on October 10th-11th depending on your timezone. Fans can watch the broadcast which will feature a special message on Youtube or on Steam. For those fortunate enough to live near or in Burbank, California, may also be taking part in a public celebration. On October 10th, the Round1 Burbank Town Center will be hosting a special event. This event is already sold out but will feature gifts, voice actor signings, and special programming.

Of course, the question now is what will this special announcement be? Could we be seeing an enhanced version of Metaphor: Refantazio announced during the anniversary? Katsura Hashino, game director and producer of Metaphor previously worked on the Persona series. As ATLUS fans know they are notorious for the practice of a vanilla game and then a new version with just a bit more content.
Or perhaps we’ll learn that this may truly become a series in its own right. Will there be a Metaphor sequel? If so, would we continue to follow the characters from the first entry? Or will this also follow the Persona series in introducing us to a new cast of characters? Either way, it may mean a late late night for some of us.
