Grab your buddies and your Buggies, as Grounded 2’s Hairy and Scary Update has arrived in Early Access as part of the 0.2 update!
A post was published on the official Obsidian Entertainment website, breaking down what was included in the first major update to the game, as well as listing the dozens and dozens of bug fixes, big and small.
“Brookhollow Park just got a whole lot creepier (and fuzzier). The Hairy and Scary Update has crawled its way into Grounded 2, and it’s bringing a monstrous new challenge, stylish new gear, smarter building tools, and even more ways to power up your Buggy. Ready to face your fears? Let’s dive in.”
Who are we to argue with that? Let’s look over the highlights from the Hairy and Scary Update!
AXL, The Colossal Tarantula
Did anybody see the grass move over there? It might be Brookhollow Park’s newest, biggest, and hairiest threat!

AXL is a giant tarantula, complete with eight legs, giant fangs, and a hunger that won’t be sated! Once somebody’s household pet, they are now loose in the park, and they are now your biggest nightmare. This is the first boss encounter designed with mounted combat in mind, so you’ll want to make sure you have your bravest Buggy with you when taking on AXL, unless you want to be spider food!
If you and your friends are able to defeat this massive monstrosity, you’ll be rewarded with new resources that let you craft new tarantula-themed rewards, including:
- Forge the imposing Tarantula Armor set
- Wield the devastating Tarantula Bow and Spear
- Add some spooky style to your base with chests, candles, and even a candlelit throne

Build Smarter with BUILD.M
Building in Grounded 2 just got a whole lot easier with the addition of the new BUILD.M grid system! Snap, place, and perfect your creations with more intuitive controls, whether you are building a monolith to your own greatness or just tidying up your first base.
The BUILD.M grid system replaces the Construction radial menu.

Buggy Upgrades & New Gear
You’re not the only one who is getting some new gear and perks, so are your loyal Buggies! Now, with full Hot Pouch support fully integrated into your Buggy, you can swap and stock up without dismounting.
Players should also be on the lookout for a new Praying Mantis armor set, bringing spooky plague doctor vibes and some handy healing to raise their chances of survival!

Play in More Languages
Grounded 2 now has Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese localisation, with more languages planned to be added throughout development. You can check out what other languages are planned on the Grounded 2 Early Access Roadmap.
This is Halloween!
“This update dials up the intensity while keeping the fun alive—spooky, stylish, and brimming with new ways to survive the tiny terrors of Brookhollow Park. And don’t get too comfortable… October is creeping up, and we’ve tucked a few festive frights around the park to keep you on your toes.”

For October, players will discover that Brookhollow Park has taken on a spookier aesthetic, with candy corn replacing some of the world’s resources. Don’t forget to purchase the Trick-or-Treatery Building from the Ranger Station and get yourself in the spirit of the season!
