First of all, can anyone believe it’s been 18 years since Halo 3? Finishing the Fight with the Chief feels so near, yet so long ago. 2026 will mark 25 years of the series, Microsoft have stated previously “We’re building plans for the 25th anniversary of Halo and Xbox”.
That said, it’s all been a little quiet for Halo over the last couple of years. Despite some rather great post-launch multiplayer support for Halo Infinite such as a third-person mode; and Halo: The Master Chief Collection including celebration events and more, fans are desperate for more single player content from Xbox’s flagship series.
Halo Infinite had a great campaign, the change to an open-world and excellent traversal with a grappling hook made for arguably the best campaign of the ‘second trilogy’ of Chief’s Covenant-swatting gallivants.
The future of Halo
Last year, Halo Studios changed their name from 343 Industries and confirmed that they’re moving development of the Halo series to Unreal Engine. Revealing teaser footage of Halo in Unreal in the New Dawn trailer, the Chief and the world of Halo looked absolutely stunning:
With the Halo World Championships 2025 looming, Halo Studios have confirmed that we’ll learn more about the future of Halo at the event. On October 24, they will hold panel events to share more to fans:
“Back in June we let the community know that we’d be continuing the conversation from last year’s HaloWC and the “A New Dawn” video and sharing more about what we’ve been working on. Like last year we’ll be on the Main Stage to talk about it but this year we’ve also got a “deep dive” panel planned for the Community Stage that you won’t want to miss.
Both the segment on the Main Stage and the panel on the Community Stage will be going down early Friday afternoon on October 24 at HaloWC. Make sure you’re there early so you don’t miss a second!” Full blog post at HaloWaypoint.
Whether we will see a new game in the series, a remake of the iconic original, Combat Evolved or ports of existing titles to PlayStation, there’s not long to wait to hear now.
Despite lacking it’s own launches, Halo has strived to remain relevant to gaming and has featured skins in Fortnite, and most recently an ODST collaboration with Helldivers 2 as it launched on Xbox.
If you’re looking for more Halo in the meantime, why not check out completely free to play, Spartan Survivors. A Vampire Survivors-like with a complete Halo re-skinning, it’s available now on itch.io and will be coming to Steam and Xbox before the end of the year. We even had an exclusive GSC interview with the creator over the summer.
