Baby Steps – Coolest Hand Trophy Guide

There are a total of 12 Trophies to unlock in Baby Steps, typically in attempt to test your patience as you gather items and painfully take steps towards its delivery. Often times, the goal to achieve the trophy is simple, but everything is always seemingly out of your reach.

Read our review of Baby Steps if you’re interested in our full thoughts on the game.

Baby Steps is an open world with no maps. It’s also a game with several ways to reach the objective: take the direct, yet difficult and dangerous route, or the much longer, but safer route. It’s important to pay attention and take note of interesting landmarks. This is what we’ll use in order to help you get through these objectives.

Coolest Hand

Here is our guide for Coolest Hand that asks you to bring an ice cream to a very hot person. After the campsite scene, continue along until you see a huge boulder that introduces you to the task at hand: “my friend wants one of them ICE CREAMS. Bring to firetower”. After figuring out how to progress the “story”, you’ll have an extremely awkward scene with the donkey wearing a blue sweater named Jesse.

My friend wants one of them ICE CREAMS. Bring to firetower

So, we already know what we’re supposed to do for this “chapter’s” task. Now we have to find this ice cream cart. There’s many neat items in this area as you slowly walk through, and you start to notice that it’s just one big sandpit; complete with shovels, buckets, and sandcastles. As you go through, you’ll see a long track with a red wagon at the start, just waiting for you to give it a ride!

Make your way to the bottom of the track and if you start to pan your camera around, you’ll see an odd colourful…thing far off into the distance. Now you know where we need to go, we just need to figure out how to get there.

Go right, and all the way to the top of the stairs.

Once you reach the stairs, start the climb on the left side first, then drop/side down to the right set of stairs.

TIPS

  • Sand is an interesting surface, different from muddy surfaces, you can regain your footing after sliding a bit as long as the it’s not too steep. Control your upper body so you don’t fall forward or backwards.

From here, get to the top of the stairs and make a left. There is a sliver of a path that you’ll need to drop down onto. There is a small gap between where you are and where you need to land, so make sure you take a good step forward and fall safely on to the small landing instead of just sliding down.

Once there, slide down the steep sand slope with cacti. It doesn’t matter now if you get hit by it, since our goal is to reach the bottom and speak to the ice cream vendor (which I think was also the shoe vendor NPC early in the game).

READ/WATCH BEFORE you get your ice cream!

Go to time stamp: 7:09 for the start of the delivery
  • You have 10 minutes to complete the delivery
  • You can attempt the delivery about 7 times
  • With minor trips/falls, this guide will take about 9minutes
  • I DID NOT get the trophy as attempting the perfect path took me too long and I made too many mistakes.
  • WATCH/Read through the whole delivery first before doing it yourself, so you can learn from my mistakes.

DELIVERY START:

  • Fall or slide down to the left of the ice cream vendor
  • When I did it, I mostly slid down, but falling down might actually be quicker.

Pick up your ice cream if you dropped it, then head right through a small opening

Walk briskly on this track, all the way to the top

Once up there, you should be able to see the firetower, our destination in the far distance.

Climbing up the 1st mountain

Once you reach the “end” of the open sand, you’ll see a climbable mountain on the left side.

  • In the video, I show two potential routes, but in this guide, I suggest the “alternate path”
  • Go around the corner and carefully climb up
  • Follow the path to the left, careful not to slip downwards and drop your ice cream. These parts are going to start being dangerous. If you are unlucky, you can fling your ice cream so far during a slip, that you’ll need to start all over again because you’ll take too long of a time to recover from the fall.
  • Once you’ve made it through the path of rocks, you’ve cleared your first mountain area. Head straight, walking more closely to the left side.
  • That left side is going to be our next mountain to climb up and is also the hardest obstacle (in my opinion) of the delivery.

The biggest hurdle

  • Here it is: once you’ve made a left and start your steps up the mountain, you’ll see the worst part of this delivery.
  • WHEN/IF you fail by sliding down & dropping your ice cream, the recovery will take too long and you’ll need to start over.
  • There is a visible, lighter shade on the sand, indicating a flatter surface for you to walk on, but I suggest walking just to the right of it.
  • Quick, short steps is best
  • Walk so that your feet are side by side, instead of in front of each other (which you would normally do for narrow ledges)
  • If you start to slip, STOP walking, control your upper body so that you don’t fall forwards/backwards. Continue walking once you feel you’ve stabilized and lift the foot that is behind you first.

Once you’ve made it up, don’t be complacent, as you still need to use your precisely placed steps on a narrow pathway until you’re safe.

But once you do, you’re nearly there! Just go along this linear path upwards until you see a climbable path of rocks, leading to your final climb!

This is your final obstacle. It isn’t as hard as it looks. Take quick, short strides upward and you’ll easily get over this rock and to your drop off area!

Hopefully you made it in time before your ice cream melted! If you did, I am incredibly jealous of your accomplishment!

Shortcut to the beginning if you need to RETRY

If you didn’t make it in time, there is a slight shortcut to get back to the ice cream vendor.

Remember this turn, during your climb up the first mountain? Instead of turn, going through the cacti will lead to the left side of the 2nd image below. The open world of Baby Steps is actually pretty small and often found myself circling it if you just continue to walk in one direction.

That was our Coolest Hand Trophy Guide for Baby Steps! We hope you found it helpful and that you didn’t break any controllers or your patience along the way! We’ll have more guides for Baby Steps soon as we play more through the game!
