Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 Still in the Works

During an incredibly busy Tokyo Games Show week, we’ve had a number of updates from big Japanese and Western developers / publishers. Updates and announcements have  come from the likes of PlayStation’s State of Play, Xbox’s showcase and an update from Metal Gear Solid creator, Hideo Kojima.

Kojima shared an incredibly eery update on his upcoming OD project which is being worked on with Xbox Games Studios. He is also working on bringing his next tactical espionage title, Physint to fruition – though it seems we’ll be waiting a number of years for that one.

Japanese publisher, Konami retain full rights to the Metal Gear franchise following a well-documented bad fallout with Kojima and have been working to give franchise classics new leases of life. In 2023, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 brought the first three MGS games to modern platforms with a variety of modern day improvements. This was followed up just recently with the Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater, which we gave high praise to in our review.

Eager to delve deeper into the library of MGS classics, Master Collection Vol. 2 remains in the works. At a TGS 2025 panel, Series Producer, Noriaki Okamura confirmed Vol. 2 is alive and will be with us when ready. He commented (Credit: X (Twitter) user @Kuwabara357 for the fan translation):

“It has certainly taken quite a while now. Since we called the first installment ‘Vol.1,’ it’s only natural to expect a second one. and that’s what we said years ago.”

“But, as we’ve repeated several times, we are making it.”

“We’ve been working on it properly while also producing MGS DELTA. At the right timing, we’d like to share with you all not only about its progress but also the direction going forward. I’m sorry, it feels like I always have to say this… but please wait just a little longer. How long “a little longer” actually means… well, it’s hard to say. But the project is moving forward properly, and we believe it’s shaping up to be something enjoyable really. So please wait just a bit more, more information are [is] coming”

It is yet to be known which Metal Gear Solid titles will be included in Master Collection Vol. 2. The natural order would be the masterpiece MGS 4, which is criminally locked on the PlayStation 3. Also expected are MGS Peace Walker and the also incredible MGS 5 – the last mainline Metal Gear before Kojima and Konami’s unceremonious split.
