Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Announced

During today's Direct, Nintendo announced a great line up and closed out with one of their heavy hitters. Fire Emblem is back! Or well it will be in 2026 at least. It has only been a few years since Fire Emblem: Engage, but that doesn't quell the excitement. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is the latest entry into the Fire Emblem series and it appears we may be revisiting the universe of FE: Three Houses.

Saving this as their final announcement for the Nintendo Direct was quite a surprise. A pleasant one to be sure. There was a lot of fan speculation about whether we would see a port or a remake of previous titles. Instead, we're greeted with this new entry and fans are rejoicing. The official description from Nintendo for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is:

The Heroic Games have begun. The newest entry in the Fire Emblem series is set to enter the arena. The debut trailer provided a glimpse of the intertwining story, characters and turn-based tactical RPG gameplay that awaits players when the game launches for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.

Interestingly enough, many of these weapons highlighted seem to resemble Hero's relics and we even saw a Demonic Beast appear. It was the first indication that perhaps we are revisiting the world of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. This feels all but confirmed at the end when we see Sothis when she asks, "Have you forgotten me so soon?"

Will we be revisiting Fodlan? Or will we find ourselves in a new area of the universe? A prequel? A sequel? As Fire Emblem: Three Houses had a few different paths to take, it will be interesting to see how this exists in the universe if it indeed does.

This won't be the first time that we return to Fodlan as Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes revisited Fodlan in their alternate universe scenario. Either way, fans of Three Houses (or fans of Sothis) will have a lot to look forward to in 2026. It may even be the reason that some people decide to pick up the Switch 2. Will this be your reason?
