Check out the intro movie for the upcoming Once Upon a Katamari.
During the most recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase the first new home console entry in the Katamari series in sixteen years was announced. It releases this October from developer RENGAME. They previously co-developed the remakes of Katamari Damacy and We Love Katamari. This will be the first brand new home console entry since 2009’s Katamari Forever for the PlayStation 3.
This entry follows The Prince of the Cosmos. He’s attempting to clean up another mess made by his father, The King of All Cosmos. This time it will affect the course of history. In this entry, players control the prince as he travels through time, rolling up katamaris in the likes of the Jurassic era and the ice age.
Once Upon a Katamari – Opening Movie
As the series is revered for its iconic visual style and memorable music, it’s no surprise that Bandai Namco has revealed an early look at the game’s opening movie. The movie features a new theme from Japanese rap duo Chelmico titled “Katamari Time!”. Anime fans might recognize the duo’s music from the opening of the anime Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!
Earlier this year, Bandai Namco released a new entry, Katamari Damacy Rolling LIVE, for iOS and other Apple devices as part of the tech company’s Apple Arcade service. Once Upon a Katamari bares no relation to this title, and is a fully fledged new entry designed as a mainline title in the series, the first since 2012’s Touch My Katamari for PlayStation Vita. With the series being gone for so long, here’s hoping this new entry was worth the wait.

Once Upon a Katamari will release for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 24.
