We have all waited patiently for more info regarding the new ROG Xbox Ally X. Finally today at the Xbox Showcase during Gamescom, we got some new info. While it may not be everything we need to know, it’s great to have more insight into this new handheld.
Much of the Xbox presentation showed us the functionality of the handheld. This included the improvements made to windows Xbox app. During the demo, they showcased that once you boot up the system, you are taken straight in to the Xbox app. You are seamlessly able to swap between open windows and games giving you an Xbox UI experience brought to PC.
Games will now come with an icon similar to the steam deck verified icon. This will let you know what games have been optimized to give you the Xbox experience in handheld form.
What is important to know about games on the ROG Xbox Ally X, is that any game available on Xbox PC, is available on this too. To clarify, if its Xbox Play Anywhere, you can download it. If its Xbox Cloud, you can stream select owned games through that. Outside of the Xbox ecosystem, you can access other storefronts to the handheld.
The handheld is designed to be one of the most ergonomic handheld in the market. Xbox controllers are widely known to be the best when it comes to ergonomics. Now, ASUS is looking to provide that same feeling with the ROG Xbox Ally.
While we’re all dying to know the the price of these handhelds, the wait continues. Unfortunately there is a need for “more time to figure the macro-economic impact to pricing”. As a result, pre-orders were due to go up today August 20th, but has since changed. That doesn’t mean you can’t take another step to owning you rown handheld. For now, you can sign up for the ability to pre-order HERE.
