PlayStation 5 Getting A Price Hike Tomorrow

It seems like every time one of the big 3 announces a price increase, we all wait in the wings to see when the others will follow. This year, on the hardware side, it’s already happened with Xbox. Of course, we also saw this with Nintendo. Even though many wanted to believe it wouldn’t happen, now its Sony’s turn. To those in the U.S. market, here are your new PS5 price points.

This morning, August 20th, 2025, PlayStation posted to Twitter/X about an update to the price of the PlayStation 5. The blog post they linked in their Twitter/X post indicated the following:

Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we've made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.

The new pricing structure for the PlayStation 5 consoles is as follows:

    PlayStation 5 - $549.99
    PlayStation 5 Digital Edition - $499.99
    PlayStation 5 Pro - $749.99

Now that we know the consoles will see a price hike, the question becomes, what about the accessories? Will Americans also feel the sting of a price hike on accessories? We know Nintendo announced a price hike to all of their accessories when the console price increased. Thankfully, Sony was very clear on what would happen to PlayStation’s controllers and the like as well. In the same blog post it was stated, “The recommended retail prices for PlayStation 5 accessories remain unchanged, and we have no other price changes to announce for additional markets.” So on that front, no news is good news.

Unfortunately, the days of companies taking a loss on hardware are behind us. It appears are the days where consoles got cheaper as the generation moved on. Hopefully, this is the last price hike I have to report on for a while, but only time will tell.

If you haven’t yet bought a PS5, will this impact your desire to purchase one? Will you be replacing yours ASAP to avoid a more expensive console? Sound off on the comments down below.
