Thai Folklore Horror Adventure Game Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit Announced

The Thailand-based developer WereBuff Studio has announced their first title, Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit, an atmospheric horror adventure game based on Thai folklore.

Inspired by games like the Little Nightmares series, Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit is a single-player experience where you play as a lost spirit and his faithful zebra steed, searching for a home.

Here is a summary of Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit, via the game’s Steam page:

“You play Kumarn, a childlike spirit once worshipped at a village shrine, now torn from his sacred home and cast into a haunting world of restless ghosts and cursed places. With your loyal zebra companion, journey through forgotten temples, haunted villages, and forsaken graveyards to rediscover where you truly belong.”

Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit is spread across six chapters, telling a story steeped in Thai folklore through minimal direct storytelling, utilising environmental design and terrifying art direction to pull you into its world. Hide, sneak, and use your head to survive deadly encounters and solve environmental puzzles, with Zeb the Zebra Spirit at your side.

WereBuff Studio, which is self-publishing the game as well, is bringing a playable demo to Gamescom 2025, happening in Cologne, Germany, from August 20th to 24th. Fingers crossed, some members of the GSC team can get some hands-on time with it.

Keep out of sight, be as quiet as possible, and if you can’t… run! Outsmart malevolent spirits that haunt your every step, and face your fears to find a home.

Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit will launch on PC via Steam first, with unspecified console launches to follow. There is no release date for the game at the time of reporting.
