PUBG Ends Xbox One and PlayStation 4 Support in November

PUBG developer Krafton have announced that following an upcoming update to the Xbox and PlayStation versions of PUBG, only current-gen consoles will be supported. This means that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game will be retired, following years of support.

PUBG is an all time great of the battle-royale genre, and still has hundreds of thousands of daily players. The game to Xbox One in Game Preview form in late-2017, although at the time the game was barely playable unless you had an Xbox One X, with broken textures and numerous other issues veterans may remember. The game did get patched hard and eventually reached a playable state. PUBG later came to PlayStation 4 in 2018 giving PlayStation gamers the chance to drop in and hit foes with frying pans. Cross play was added in 2019.

Unfortunately for last-gen players, there will be the need to upgrade your hardware to continue playing. As on November 13 2025 the previously revealed PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game will bring an end to PS4 and Xbox One support.

PUBG PS5 and Xbox Series upgrades

When the game transitions to current-gen consoles, players can expect a much-needed visual overhaul to the game. On last-gen consoles, the game currently looks as follows on PS4:

Whereas, the PlayStation 5 version of the game will look like the following, receiving texture, draw distance and shadowing enhancements:

PUBG on Xbox Series X will run at 4K / 60fps, with Series S players having the choice of either 1440p / 30fps; or 1080p / 60fps. PS5 Pro will be 4K; with base PS5 consoles running at 1440p - both at 60fps.

Krafton also announced in their blog post that whilst this update brings the game to current-gen, the transition also sets up the game up for "larger updates in the future".

The PUBG update for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 arrives on November 13, giving players several months to update their hardware to continue playing.
