Square Enix has announced The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, a new HD-2D action-RPG arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. Revealed during the July 2025 Nintendo Direct, the game has a demo available now on the Switch 2 eShop, inviting early feedback from players to help shape the final version. Developed by the team behind Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default, it brings a fresh blend of retro visuals and real-time combat.
You play as Elliot, a young adventurer from the magically protected Kingdom of Huther. When ruins appear beyond the safety of its borders, Elliot ventures into the vast and dangerous continent of Philabeldia, accompanied by a fairy companion named Faie. Unlike previous HD-2D titles from Square Enix, this game ditches turn-based combat for real-time action. Elliot wields seven distinct weapon types, each with its own abilities, and players can use Magicite crystals to enhance and customize his gear. Faie plays an active role, gathering items, attacking foes, and even supporting a second player in co-op mode.
Visually, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales embraces Square Enix’s signature HD-2D style, combining nostalgic pixel art with modern effects in a top-down adventure format. Strategic combat, time-spanning storytelling, and dynamic exploration all come together to create what looks to be a rich and distinctive RPG experience. The game is also confirmed to by releasing on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5.
