It’s a big day to be small with the launch of Grounded 2, Obsidian Entertainment’s follow-up to their first “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” inspired co-op survival game, Grounded, which released nearly 5 years ago to the day.
Just like the first game, Grounded 2 has been released into Xbox Game Preview, a type of Early Access, with a full release planned later, and constant updates until the game reaches version 1.0. But this time, instead of players having to wait and see what’s coming to the game, the developers have released an Early Access Roadmap for Grounded 2.

Split into four sections, with the last covering future updates outside of 2025, there looks to be a lot planned already, and that’s without any feedback from players. No doubt adjustments and/or additions may be made to this roadmap after the game has been in players’ hands for a month or so.
Updates for Grounded 2 also cover several different categories, including Features, Creatures, and Progression, among others. Here are some updates we feel are worth highlighting:
- Steam Deck and ROG Ally support is planned for the Winter Update.
- A focus on water-based mechanics and equipment is planned as part of the Summer Update, including Water Bases, Buggies, and Creatures.
- Future Plans covers a wealth of new content, with a large number of languages getting text support.
Of course, no roadmap is complete without one or two teases, with one or two details spraypainted over to obscure them (those damned kids and their graffiti!)
A direct sequel, Grounded 2 has up to 4 players take on the roles of the original playable characters, 2 years after the events of the first game. Sadly for these young teens, their time being near microscopic is not over. After being shrunk down to the size of ants and left to survive in an overgrown backyard in the first game, they are back to being teeny tiny and are now lost in the vast Brookhollow Park. They’ll have to keep their wits about them, crafting gear, collecting resources, fending off aggressive, giant insects, and hopefully finding answers as to what in the world is going on.

Fans of the Grounded series already have a lot on their diminutive plates to start with, as Grounded 2 is about 3 times larger than the first game. One of the game’s new and most exciting additions is Buggies, rideable insects that give players different ways to fight, build, and explore the vastness of Brookhollow Park.
With a number of us here at the GSC big fans of Grounded, you can be sure to hear more about Grounded 2 from us, just as soon as we’ve got our bearings in this small-scale survival experience.
Grounded 2 is available to download and play through Xbox Game Pass, and for purchase on both Xbox and PC(Steam). The Standard Edition of the game is priced at $29.99USD, with the recently announced Minotaurs, Myrmidons, and Mants: Oh My! Founder’s Edition available to buy for $39.99USD (a $10 upgrade to the Founder’s Pack is also available).
