In Killing Floor 3, you fight hordes of enemies known as Zed’s with 5 different waves with increased difficulty, culminating in a 6th wave with a boss. While the game only features 3 bosses, they all definitely pack a punch, even on the lowest difficulty. With this guide we are going to help you get through the fight with one of the 3, The Chimera.
What makes The Chimera a difficult boss is the sheer amount of armor it has on it and how it can attack you in multiple ways. The Chimera has both ranged and melee attacks and also spawns Mire Cysts to attack you. Because of this it is quite the dangerous boss and in our opinion a step up in difficulty from the Queen Crawler.
With how much armor it does have, its almost impossible to defeat without some armor piercing ammo. It doesn’t have armor on its head so you can always aim there, but armor piercing is the sole thing that can help you attack anywhere and everywhere on The Chimera.
Thankfully, only one ever spawns regardless of how full your lobby is, so that keeps it a tier below The Impaler and the potential that boss brings with having 3 all at once. So what can you do to defeat The Chimera? Lets jump into that.
Weaknesses
The Chimera has a weakness against both cold and the aforementioned armor piercing ammo. However keep in mind because of its armor, the cold doesnt really help much in the first half of the battle until The Chimera sheds its armor.

In terms of where to aim on The Chimera, if you have armor piercing ammo you can aim anywhere to whittle away at its health. If you don’t have armor piercing than you will need to focus on The Chimera’s head for the first part. Once you’ve taken half its health The Chimera will shed its armor and expose its weakspots on its arms and back. With those exposed it gives you more options to attack.
How To Defeat
With its weaknesses mentioned we can talk a bit of strategy. As mentioned because of its armor theres really almost two seperate battles here. The first section with all of its armor and the second without.
Aim For The Head: This strategy is a general strategy in Killing Floor 3, but its the most important against the Chimera, especially without armor piercing ammo.
Find & Use Turrets: Again this is a fairly common approach to the game in general, but with The Chimera spawning its Cysts the turret is a great thing to have nearby for crowd control. The turret can focus on the Cysts so you can focus on The Chimera. It will also help destroying the nests before they even spawn Cysts. Make sure you have multi-tools if this is a strategy you want to use.
Avoid Its Tentacles: The Chimera will spawn tentacles that come out of the ground. The best thing to do is to dodge them or jump out of the way. They can’t be destroyed so don’t even try, just get out of the way by any means necessary and stay on the attack.
Expand To Weaknesses For Phase 2: Once you get The Chimera down to half health it will shed its armor. This is when you can begin to focus on its back and arm cores to deal plenty of damage. Once you’ve hit this phase of the battle damage becomes much easier.
With these few tips you should be able to defeat The Chimera more often than not whether solo or in a group. For more Killing Floor 3 guides, including guides for the other bosses, head below to find all our coverage. Happy Zed hunting!
